Defeat Diabetes is an organisation established by Professor Peter Brukner. It contains lots of useful information as well as some great recipes. Professor Brukner also offers programs to support the introduction of a low-carbohydrate real foods lifestyle including an app based program.
REAL LIFE MEDICINE
Real Life Medicine is founded by two Australian general practitioners (Dr Lucy Burns and Dr Mary Barson) who are passionate about healing through lifestyle changes that include therapeutic carbohydrate restriction. This website provides information and free resources to support carbohydrate restriction. Lucy and Mary also offer programs to support change, and they run a fantastic podcast titled “Real Health and Weight Loss.”
This website is a great place to start reading more about the benefits of a low carb real food lifestyle and has practical information in implementing change.
THE SOCIETY OF METABOLIC HEALTH PRACTITIONERS
The Society of Metabolic Health Practitioners website contains helpful information for both health practitioners and patients about therapeutic carbohydrate restriction. There are links to scientific papers, tools and handouts and recipes available. There are also guidelines for implementing therapeutic carbohydrate reduction as a dietary intervention in hospitals and clinics

LOW CARB DOWN UNDER
Low Carb Down Under is an organisation created to bring together people with an interest in low carbohydrate nutrition. It contains lots of helpful resources for learning, recipes and links to conferences. There are numerous recordings from previous presentations given at LCDU conferences available.

Low Carb USA has reader friendly information available addressing the concerns that often arise in response the recommendations made by health professionals promoting low carb and ketogenic diets. I recommend reading the downloadable eBook titled “The Ketogenic Diet. Addressing concerns and Considering Benefits” by Sarah Rise and Doug Reynolds that is available on the website.
Inspiring People
Dr Gary Fettke is a Tasmanian orthopaedic surgeon, who was reprimanded and silenced by AHPRA for giving nutritional advice to his overweight and diabetic patients about low-carbohydrate diets. He was later offered an apology by AHPRA and cleared of all charges
Belinda Fettke: Dr Gary Fettke’s wife, who has released her research findings on the influence of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and cereal companies such as Kellog’s on the development of the current dietary guidelines. Watch the presentation here
